Family Style New Year’s Eve

We had so much fun with the Good Day PA gang at abc27 today.  And, we got to meet Roscoe! Click here for his Facebook page.  After a ridiculous morning with our own Springer Spaniel Rainbowdash, hearing about Roscoe was just what we needed. We can learn so much from our dogs-even when they are misbehaving!

Spending New Year’s Eve inside with your kids? Sophie and I shared these ideas for grab ‘n go mac ‘n cheese, fizzy lifting drink and family fun. I like to keep things as simple as possible. No Pinterest perfection here. Instead it’s more about being practical, spending time with my guests and letting the kids have some free play.

Mac ‘n cheese bites

1 box Mac ‘n cheese: use your favorite brand, frozen, your own recipe
1/2 cup bread crumbs
1 heaping cup shredded, melty cheese
Small cupcake liners
Muffin tins
To make: Make the macaroni and cheese according to the package directions. Then, add the bread crumbs and extra cheese. Heap into lined muffin tins. Bake at 350 for about 20 minutes. Watch them so the tops do not get too crusty. Let sit for at least 5 minutes before serving.

Fizzy Lifting Drink

Sparkling water
Cranberry juice
Plastic wine or champagne glasses
Fill each  glass 1/2 way with sparkling water. We used Wegmans brand orange-lime. Top with your favorite Cranberry juice blend.

Family fun

Be sure to have party hats, noisemakers, and balloons. We like to pick a time to countdown to. Choose what works best for your family. We’ve done noon, 7 and 8 p.m. Drop something fun! Here in Central PA, every little town drops something at midnight: strawberry, pickle, bologna and a rose to name a few. Pick a favorite stuffed animal, loop some yarn around it and lower it from your deck, over a door or down the stairs while the kids count down from 10. Then, they can all wish one another a happy new year and cheers with their fizzy lifting drink!

Happy New Year from Eating with Ang & Sophie!
